    Review for Line of Fire

Reviewer Comments: This is another story in the Station Five series by Ms Davis and involves firefighter Tommy and his choice Shea. An arsonist is on the loose and Tommy almost loses his life. There is plenty of action in the story and the reader will be taken on that ride.

Tommy Skyler is a firefighter. He is the youngest one in the station and is always teased about his age but that is nothing to do with his ability. He wants to ask Shea out on a date but is not sure how to handle her rejection. Tommy is injured in a fire but not seriously and Shea nurses him. Tommy has plans for the future but is also insecure about making those decisions. He is an interesting character and one who is endearing probably more so because of his insecurity. Tommy feels he will never live up to his brother who was killed in Afghanistan.

Shea Ford is a nurse. She has a brother who is a police officer but her parents have died and this rules some of her thinking as does a rape in her younger years. She is afraid to date Tommy because his job involves so much danger, which does prove to be correct, but Shea is able to overcome her fears to be with Tommy. She tries dating another man but this one has other motives. It is this that makes her doubt her choice in men.

Sometimes you read about a couple who from the first pages are destined to be together and this is one such couple. They have the difficult start but then tragedy draws them together and then tears them apart. The pair’s struggle comes through on every page. The storyline adds to the angst for the couple.

There is plenty of action and the reader feels the need for the firefighters to complete their task and the fear when something goes wrong. I like that the reader is able to see the courageous firefighters and the difficult job they do on a daily basis. However, one of the most poignant moments is Tommy and his mother discussing why Tommy feels so second class and that his parents do not love him. Naturally this is the type of situation that occurs in many families as they struggle with these types of issues.

The reader will also read a thread which sees two of the firefighters connect in another story. And I suspect their story is still to come.
