Reviewer Comments: Nick Sirocco, ex-Army Ranger, is excited about collaborating with his mentor, Paddy Hawkins, on a police procedural thriller and is stunned to learn that Paddy has taken his own life, mere hours after leaving a cryptic message on Nick’s answering machine. Nick knows that Paddy would never take his own life and goes to Paddy’s daughter, Danni, an ex-cop turned private investigator, for help in finding her father’s murderer. Danni is skeptical that Nick is right. All the evidence points to suicide and Danni’s estrangement from her father leaves Danni feeling guilty. The closer Danni and Nick come to finding the truth the more someone wants them dead. Trust no one becomes their motto as they investigate cops, family and friends. Soon there is another death…a supposed suicide and Danni and Nick are not buying the coincidence. Can Danni learn to trust herself again with someone else’s life and can Nick break through that tough exterior to the loving woman underneath before they are both killed?

Maureen McKade gives readers a fun and fast paced novel. Danni and Nick steam up the pages with the desire and the mystery is well plotted. The characters are well rounded and the dialogue is chock full of zippy one-liners and quick rejoinders. My only complaint is that the characters always seemed to be eating and it became a bit distracting for me and pulled me out of the story briefly. For those of you who enjoy strong alpha characters you will want to pick this one up. It’s fun and it will hook you from the first page.

Reviewer Comments: Ms. McKade is known for her historical westerns and these are reads that I have gobbled up in the past. She has now taken a shot at the sub genre romantic suspense and she has nailed it!!

This story has it all...fast paced suspense, great characters, and great chemstry between Danni(our heroine) and Nick (our YUMMY hero).

Danni has just buried her father Paddy. Their relationship has been bad and now they will never have the chance to make things right. She is doing the best she can to get on with life when Nick Sirocco comes in and shakes her foundation by claiming he things her father was murdered rather then having killed himself.

Nick was close to Paddy. Paddy helped to turn his life around and he was the father that he never had. He can't believe that he would kill himself and he is going to prove it. Now he just needs a little help so he contacts Danni. Danni is everything he knew she would be. Tough, strong-willed, and beautiful. The promise of beauty as a child came true. Now the two of them are investigating a murder and having to stay close to each other since the killer is now after them. They don't know who to trust. Could the killer be a policeman?

This was a very fast paced read. The storyline although not "new" was done in such a way that it was fresh and kept the reader engaged. The chemistry between Nick and Danni was great. There was a true push and pull that added not only to the growing relationship, but also played a large part with the plot. Ms. McKade is a truly gifted storyteller and I highly recommend any of her reads as a fun way to pass time.
