About Sharon
Sharon Mignerey confesses to being a dreamer who believes that dreams to do true ... when you're willing to work toward their achievement. She knows because it took her 15 years to sell that first novel. Her fifth, FRIEND, LOVER, PROTECTOR is a May 2002 release from Silhouette Intimate Moments. Her books have won several awards including The Golden Heart and the National Readers Choice Award. Sharon is a frequent speaker at local and regional writer's conferences who lives in Colorado with her husband. When she's not writing, she can usually be found puttering around her garden -- a tranquil life far removed from the mayhem she prefers in her novels.
A Favorite Memory:
Only one? That's a hard, hard question. There are some from childhood, of course, and some from adulthood. So, two of the best. My grandparents owned a ranch, and one day when I was about four, I was sent to fetch my grandfather and my dad for lunch. On way I got a rock in my shoe, and I sat down on this nice red mound to take off my shoe and get out the rock. Only the mound turned out to be an ant hill. After being bitten and crying, my granddad scooped me up, whisked away all the ants, dried my tears and carried me back to the house. To me, he was bigger than life and everything a hero should be. Another best memory was taking my two daughters kite flying one blustery spring day. We didn't intend it to be a special day--we were simply spending time together. But somehow, there was something magical about that particular day and our very ordinary activities. Best of all, they remember it as being a special day, as well.
Best piece of advice to aspiring Authors
Write every day, and if not every day, at some definitive schedule because the more you write, the better you'll get. Write for the fun of it, but also be a student of craft. Just as musicians must practice with scales and exercises and artists practice with studies and sketches, so to with writers who practice with bits of a scene, pieces of dialog, and creativity exercises. Know there is value in what you have written simply for the joy of creating, regardless of whether anyone besides you ever sees the work or not.
